Union officials at Samsung Electronics said on Foreign exchange trading platform official websiteTuesday that the union will strike from July 8 to 10 to intensify industrial action against the country's most powerful business group.
The official told Reuters by phone that the union is determining how many union members will participate in the strike.
Union leader Son Woo-mok said late on Monday that the union wants the company to provide a more transparent bonus and leave system and demands that the company treat the union as an equal partner.
Samsung has not commented on the strike plan.
Since Samsung pledged in 2020 to end its practice of blocking union organization, the number of union members has rapidly increased.
Experts say that the potential impact of the strike on the chip giant’s business will depend on the number of semiconductor production line workers who participate. According to experts, most of the production lines of the world's largest memory chip manufacturer are already automated.
Last month, the union staged a strike using annual leave, which was its first action. At that time, Samsung said it had no impact on production and business activities.
